Disclaimer: These articles are historical documents. They were written in 2000-2004. The terminology and vocabulary used dates from that era, and was acceptable at that time. The descriptions of people and their interesting customs are descriptions of the east coast transgender communities that I hung out in at that time. If it doesn’t look like what you know today, that’s because it isn’t. I refuse to rewrite these documents because someday it will be important to have them available for historical reasons. In addition, I do not claim to be an academic or scholar, and I do not claim to speak for anyone except myself and all the transfolks who have given me permission to speak for them, which is quite a few. Have a nice day.

Helping To Understand Intersexuality And Transgendered Intersexuals

There are a lot of misconceptions about intersexuality, in the outer mainstream community, as well as the transgender community. Many people think of us as so rare as to be practically nonexistent. Many think of us as some sort of classic hermaphrodite, when in actuality very few of us have either internal or external anatomy that resembles anything like this. Many people think we are a myth, when we're real people with a variety of medical conditions. Some envy us. Some are disgusted by us. Very few actually have any clue what it's like to be one of us.

Between the newly-hatched intersex community and the fledgling transgender community, there is a number of people who overlap both of these definitions - transgendered intersexuals. Because the majority of intersexuals are forcibly assigned to the female gender at birth (on the rationale that it is easier to make a "hole" than a "pole"), the majority of intersexuals that seek sex reassignment are FTMs, or female-to-male. There are, of course, some who go the MTF route, as well. This population has been underserved as a whole, by both communities and the medical community as well. We fall between the cracks. It's time this changed. These pages are an attempt at a start.

They are also an attempt at a start of bridge building between transfolk and intersexuals. There's been a lot of misinformation, misunderstandings, and miscommunication between these two groups, and as the Intersex Liaison of the American Boyz FTM organization, it's my job to build some bridges. Those of us who are transgendered intersexuals cannot afford to be caught in the middle of two feuding communities, both of whose aid and support we need badly.

If you have any questions or information, please contact me at cauldronfarm@hotmail.com , with one exception. If you are looking for medical help, I cannot help you at this time. I truly wish I could. Eventually we hope to set up a resource list, but right now I am helpless to aid you. As soon as that situation changes, so will this website.
